April Byrd ~ Make-Up Artist
April Byrd, originally from Baltimore, Maryland, developed her early interests in makeup artistry from close friends and family members experienced in various industries, and developed her early experience in support roles for local fashion shows in and around the Baltimore metropolitan area. In the early eighties, April's creativity and artistry was witnessed with such local designers and in area fashion events by John Lewis Bey and Michael Sparks. Additionally, in those early years April worked with Kevin Clash, legendary puppeteer of Elmo, Clifford, and various other characters under the direction of Jim Hensen.
April has now launched FACINGU, based on her long lasting motto of always "putting your best face forward." FacingU focuses on accentuating the natural beauty of its client while preparing them for the everyday, as well as the most fabulous formal affair. Accentuating a person's' natural features is often overlooked in make-up artistry.
FacingU also focuses on instruction, both for the teen, as she embarks cautiously on the key measures and lessons of maturity, as well as the young and mature woman to demonstrate styles and techniques that can be used everyday to optimize self-application.
FACINGU's philanthropic endeavors include monthly classes for women who have been victims of abuse and neglect to enable these women to gain levels of confidence to reclaim their lives and to successfully enter the workforce. Additional plans are underway to conduct classes and seminars for teenagers in low income schools within the District to demonstrate the benefits of the natural application of make-up and preserving the youth of teenagers in District of Columbia Schools.
Services of FACINGU include individual make-up application sessions in the FacingU studio or in the privacy of the clients' home or office. Services also include weddings, photo shoots, film, videos, make-overs, personal shopping and color consultation as well as contouring and body application.
Based in Washington, DC, April Byrd showcases her creativity as FACINGU in fine art portraits, headshot portfolios, fashion shows, weddings, and professional personal services. April's talents transcend culture and gender boundaries, and embrace various context of fashion and art from natural to the avant garde.
